Data Management Tip: Duplicates

One part of growth in your business that shouldn't be encouraged is duplicate data. Duplicates result from a number of different sources, such as:

  • Failing to check for existing records before manually entering new data
  • Receiving data from multiple sources without having coding in place to automatically resolve duplicates
  • Simple grammatical and spelling errors such that searching for duplicates is practically impossible

Every business should periodically review their systems for duplicate data. Duplicates waste time and effort as each time stakeholders are looking to utilise their data; they need to filter out redundant records

In addition; having your client communicated multiple times from the one source (say a newsletter) makes the business look unprofessional, and it makes it more difficult for a client to unsubscribe or manage their subscriptions and communication channels with your business
